Children's book author. Ex-middle linebacker. 4th grade coach of the year.

These unlikely titles describe Indiana's 6th District U.S. Congressman Luke Messer, who was recently re-elected to House Republican leadership as the House Republican Policy Chair, making him the 5th ranked Republican in the House.

In Congress, Luke serves on the House Financial Services and House Education & Workforce committees where he works on issues ranging from K-12 education to banking reform. Luke founded the Congressional School Choice Caucus. In his first term, Luke served on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and was elected President of his Freshman Class by his peers.

Throughout his career, Luke Messer has battled the establishment to deliver reform. Prior to Congress, Luke served as an Indiana State Legislator, led an education reform not-for-profit as President and CEO, served 5 years as Executive Director of the Indiana Republican State Party and gained business experience as a partner in two Indiana law firms.

Luke was raised with his brother by a single-parent mother, who recently retired from the Delta Faucet factory in Greensburg. He worked his way through school with jobs that included collecting garbage, telemarketing, detasseling corn, bailing hay, waiting tables and umpiring baseball games. Luke graduated summa cum laude & Phi Beta Kappa from Wabash College and earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University where he served on the Law Review.

Luke met his wife Jennifer on a blind date over sixteen years ago. They are the proud parents of two daughters, one son and two beloved 15 year-old dogs. Luke and his wife are also the author and illustrator of a children's book about Indiana entitled "Hoosier Heart." The Messer family are active Members of the McLean Presbyterian Church.

An ex-middle linebacker who played football at both Greensburg High School and Wabash College, Luke is a youth sports coach and avid fan of Indiana's sports teams. In fact, Luke was recently named the "4th grade coach of the year" in his son's basketball league. And, he describes his favorite ball clubs as "my kid's teams, the Indianapolis Colts and whoever is playing against the New England Patriots."
