Luke Messer Meets Signature Requirement to Get on U.S. Senate Ballot
January 23, 2018
INDIANAPOLIS (Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018) – Luke Messer’s U.S. Senate campaign today announced it has met the signature requirement to get on the ballot for U.S. Senate.
On Friday, County Clerks officially verified more than the required 500 petition signatures for Messer in each of the nine congressional districts, nearly three weeks ahead of the deadline on Feb. 9.
Messer is the first candidate in the Republican Senate primary to announce his petition signatures have been verified by County Clerks.
“We’re proud to have grassroots support for our Senate campaign from every corner of the state,” Messer said. “Together, we will defeat Joe Donnelly and give Indiana a U.S. Senator who fights for Hoosier families and supports the Trump-Pence agenda.”
Senate candidates must submit signatures of 500 registered voters from each of Indiana’s nine congressional districts to have their name added to the ballot. Filing began on Jan. 10 and ends Feb. 9.
In the coming weeks, Messer will file his verified signatures with the Indiana Secretary of State’s office to officially be added to the ballot.
Earlier this month, Messer won the Indiana Republican Party’s U.S. Senate Straw Poll with 45 percent of the vote, coming in 20 points ahead of his five primary opponents. Messer previously won both the Grassroots Conservatives straw poll and the IndyPolitics poll.
Messer recently launched his 3-step plan to fix the broken U.S. Senate. His plan includes 1) Ending the filibuster 2) Speeding up the Presidential confirmation process and 3) Imposing term limits.
